Mechanical design in support of electronics-based product development. This includes dozens of cable designs, selecting off-the-shelf enclosures, designing custom enclosures, creating product packaging (including meeting regulatory labeling requirements), selecting electrical connectors, and designs using screws, washers, stand-offs, fasteners, and other assembly hardware. - Custom Cable Design – off-the-shelf cable selection and custom cable design, everything from simple cable designs to complex designs requiring shielding, crimping, multiple layers of insulator, and up to 6 connectors with hundreds of circuits on a single cable assembly.
- Thermal Analysis and Mitigation – thermal analysis and thermal mitigation (active and passive cooling) techniques as it relates to maintaining safe temperatures for the operation of electronics. Virtually a requirement when dealing with miniature electronics or in designs that consume significant power, such as power supply designs and high-power RF transmitters.
- Enclosures and Packaging – designs ranging from off-the-shelf aluminum enclosures to the design of custom enclosures using injection-molded ABS plastic, rapid prototypes (SLS/SLA), and more. Also experience with providing standalone board solutions for OEM use, and ways to protect them against environmental hazards (e.g. conformal coating).
- Electrical Connectors – connector selection and design of board-to-board, board-to-cable, cable-to-cable, and bulkhead mounted connectors ranging from single-circuit RF connectors to high density connectors with mixed digital and power connections.
