Electrical engineering, especially in the field of miniature and low power design of electronics, is our core competence, focused in the following areas. Click on a link below to learn more.
- Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) – ranging from simple two-layer test boards to complex 10-layer blind and buried via controlled impedance boards and everything in between. Dozens of designs are in mass production and in wide use in the military, aviation, and consumer electronic sectors.
- Microcontrollers – years of experience writing C and assembly for a variety of applications for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit embedded processors with DSP and a multitude of integrated peripherals interfacing with a hundreds of different ICs including sensors, radios, data translators, user interface devices, and much more. Highly organized and disciplined coding and software design abilities makes code easily verifiable, reliable, and reusable for later projects.
- FPGA/CPLD – experience writing in Verilog, VHDL, and Abel Hardware Description Languages (HDL) on various FPGA/CPLD platforms offered by Lattice, Xilinx, Altera, and Cypress Semiconductor. Experience with block and distributed RAM, integrated DSP, multiple clock domains, soft core processors and IP cores, simulation and in-system debug techniques.
- Power Supplies – custom DC-to-DC power supplies specifically designed to meet the requirements of your load and available input source. Maximize efficiency to extend battery life while minimizing size, cost, and operating temperature. Extensive experience with the present state of technology including linear, switched capacitor, buck, boost, buck-boost topologies using both asynchronous catch diodes and synchronous FET implementations.
- Sensors and Sensing Systems – experience with the design of dozens of products which use sensors and sensing systems including temperature, pressure, acceleration, gyroscopes, magnetic, current, and more, including custom design of instrumentation systems including op amps and instrumentation amplifiers (in both ratiometric and absolute systems), high-speed and precision ADCs, and associated firmware design, including use of sensor data in closed-loop feedback control systems, Kalman filters, user displays, and the generation of sensor-specific calibration coefficients.
- Radio Frequency (RF) and Communications – custom ultra-miniature superhet receivers (IQ demodulators and power detectors), high-power pulsed RF, baluns, amps, filters, custom antennae and more. Also extensive experience with off-the-shelf analog and digital video transmitters, data radios, WiFi modules, and GPS systems.
- RFID Design– RFID Reader and Tag system design and tag selection.
